As promised, Microsoft has finally enabled keyboard and mouse support on Xbox One. Now, users may be able to use these peripherals when playing games on the console — provided the particular game supports that setup, of course.

Fortnite will be one of the first games to enable this support, in addition to Warframe. Later this month, games such as Bomber Crew, Deep Rock Galactic, Strange Brigade, Vermintide 2, War Thunder and X-Morph Defense will enable support as well. Then, at a much later date, so will Children of Morta, DayZ, Minion Master, Moonlighter, Vigor, Warface, and Wargroove.

Keyboard And Mouse Support On Xbox One

"With support for mouse and keyboard, developers can now choose to add mouse and keyboard support for their games on Xbox One. This enables both developers and players with more choice on how they want to play," Jason Ronald, Director of Program Management for Xbox Platform, said in an announcement.

Developers would need to specifically add keyboard and mouse support on their games — this isn't something Microsoft can apply on its end willy-nilly. That means gamers upset about a particular game not having support should approach the developers, not Microsoft.

Developers have some leverage on how they plan to implement keyboard and mouse support as well. For instance, Fortnite is only matching keyboard and mouse players with people using the same set of peripherals, which should keep the game fair at all times, at least in terms of input. This is an important aspect given that the gaming community is still split on the subject of whether developers should let players using different controllers combat each other.

Microsoft Partners With Razer For Special Keyboard And Mouse Set

In any case, most modern keyboard and mice accessories, including wireless variants, will work on the Xbox One. What's more, Microsoft is partnering with Razer to launch a wireless mechanical keyboard and mouse bundle specifically designed for Xbox One. More details on this at CES this coming January, says Microsoft.

"Built from the ground up for gaming on Xbox One and Windows 10, it will come equipped with a dedicated Xbox key, and support for the new Xbox Dynamic Lighting capability — enabling immersive game-controlled lighting effects."

Do you think mouse and keyboard players should only be matched with other opponents using the same set of controls? As always, feel free to sound off in the comments section below!
