Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus owners are receiving Android 9 Pie earlier than they thought.

The company was expected to release the highly anticipated update sometime in January, but from the look of things, it went ahead of schedule. Just to be clear, this is the stable version of the operating system, and it's rolling out even to Galaxy S9 users who aren't part of the beta program running on Android 8 Oreo.

Galaxy S9 Android 9 Pie Update Comes Early

According to SamMobile, the major OS update is now available in Germany. On the Reddit thread where the rollout is being discussed, users are also reporting that it's also live in other countries, including the United Kingdom, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates.

It's worth mentioning that some of the users who said they have received Android 9 Pie own international variants of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. Some of them also say that they got the update after installing the December security patch on their phones.

Android 9 Pie Roadmap For Galaxy Devices

As Android Police points out, Samsung has posted its plans for the update's rollout for other devices. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are still listed with a January 2019 launch date despite the earlier rollout.

Other devices include the Galaxy Note 9 for February 2019; the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, and Galaxy Note 8 for March 2019; the Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy A8 Plus (2018), Galaxy A7 (2018), Galaxy A9 (2018), and Galaxy Tab S4 10.5 for April 2019; the Galaxy J4, Galaxy J4 Plus, Galaxy J6, Galaxy J6 Plus, and Galaxy A8 for May 2019; the Galaxy J7 (2017) for July 2019; the Galaxy J7 Duo for August 2019; the Galaxy Xcover4, Galaxy J3 (2017), and Galaxy Tab S3 9.7 for September 2019; and the Galaxy Tab A (2017), Galaxy Tab Active2, and Galaxy Tab A 10.5 for October 2019.

It's unclear when Samsung will release the update for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus worldwide, but for those in aforementioned countries, it's worth a shot to go ahead and check for software updates.
