The U.S. Census Bureau has announced that the population in the country will be over 320.09 million as we enter 2015. California remains the most populous state in the country.

The Census Bureau estimated that the U.S. population will be 320,090,857 on Jan. 1, 2015. The figure reflects an increase by 0.73 percent, or 2,334,187, when compared to Jan. 1 2014. The American population has increased by 3.67 percent, or 11,345,319, when compared to the Census Day of Apr. 1, 2010.

The bureau also revealed that the U.S. will witness one child born every 8 seconds and a death every 12 seconds in January 2015.

"Meanwhile, net international migration is expected to add one person to the U.S. population every 33 seconds. The combination of births, deaths and net international migration increases the U.S. population by one person every 16 seconds," per the Census Bureau.

California is still the most populous state in the nation with 38.8 million residents. Texas is the second most populous state with a population of 27.0 million people.

Florida has witnessed an addition of 293,000 residents over the last year and its total population as on Jan. 1, 2015 is estimated to be 19.9 million. New York has a population of 19.7 million people and has added 51,000 people in 2014.

Georgia's population surpassed 10 million for the first time. North Dakota recorded the fastest growth rate of 2.2 percent.

Some states also witnessed a decline in their total population. Illinois had about 9,972 residents less than last year. West Virginia's population decreased by 3,269 and Connecticut's by 2,664. The population in New Mexico, Alaska and Vermont also shrunk in 2014.

Even though the Census Bureau releases population details every year they are just estimates and do not highlight ongoing population trends.

The Census Bureau also projected world's population on Jan. 1, 2015, which is 7,214,958,996, an increase of 1.08 percent, or 77,381,246, when compared to the same day in 2014. January 2015 is estimated to see 4.3 births per second and 1.8 deaths each second worldwide.

The U.S. has the third biggest population in the world only after China and India. However, both China and India have about four times the population of the U.S. China has an estimated population of 1.36 billion while India has a population of around 1.25 billion.
