Samsung has finally taken the wraps off its first foldable phone the Galaxy Fold, but to the dismay of some, it doesn't have a headphone jack.

It's equipped with a lot of niceties expected from a top-of-the-line handset, including six cameras, an under-display fingerprint reader, and the like, but it's coming up a bit short in the standard features department.

No Headphone Jack

As reported by The Verge, Samsung says that the Galaxy Fold "sets this industry on a new path," which unfortunately gives the headphone jack the cold shoulder.

The trend of cutting out the port from the equation really kicked off around 2016, and since then, many smartphone makers followed suit, even big-name manufacturers such as Google and Huawei. The problem here is that users have to turn to Bluetooth audio devices or adapters and dongles to use wired earphones.

Just for a quick rundown of the Galaxy Fold's specifications, it has a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex display with a QXGA+ resolution and a 4:2:3 aspect ratio when unfolded and a 4.6-inch HD+ display when folded. Under the hood, it has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and two batteries that amounts to 4,380 mAh.

It's coming with 512 GB of internal storage and 12 GB of RAM, and it's running Android 9.0 with One UI on top out of the box. There are six cameras in total here: a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle, a 12-megapixel wide-angle, and 12-megapixel telephoto lens on the rear; and two 10-megapixel and one 8-megapixel lens on the front.

Oh, The Irony

When Apple had the "courage" to remove the headphone jack starting from the iPhone 7, Samsung took the chance to make fun of its rival. It even ran commercials that took shots at the Cupertino brand.

The same thing can be said about the notch too, as evidenced by the Galaxy M. Granted, it's not as intrusive, though.

Galaxy Fold was officially announced alongside the Galaxy S10 on Feb. 20 at the South Korean manufacturer's Unpacked Event. It's set to hit the shelves on April 26, and it's going to cost a whopping $1,980.
