The new Samsung Galaxy S10 boasts an under-display fingerprint reader in the form of an ultrasonic sensor, and some might be left thinking whether it'll still work when the screen is damaged.

Thanks to Zack "JerryRigEverything" Nelson, though, it's no mystery anymore.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Durability Test

JerryRigEverything's durability test for the Galaxy S10 has a good portion dedicated to the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which is one of the highlight features of the new device.

After removing the preinstalled screen protector, he proceeded with the usual scratch test and eventually made a lot of scratches on the part of the display that spans the reader. Now onto the results, he has confirmed that it can still function as intended even with the damage done, which was more than what users typically incur in real-life usage. However, after inflicting deep grooves that simulate cracks, the sensor wouldn't work anymore.

Just to sum up, there's no need to worry about scratches stopping it from working, but when it comes to cracks, it's a different story altogether.

For the record, the Galaxy S10 passed JerryRigEverything's burn test, bend test, and scratch test.

Galaxy S10, The New Flagship In Town

Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy S10 at its Unpacked Event, alongside the $1,980 Galaxy Fold. The standard model boasts 6.1-inch Quad HD+ (3,040 x 1,440) Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O Display, layered with a Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 8 GB of RAM, and a 3,400 mAh battery. Depending on the variant, there's 128 GB or 512 GB of internal storage to work with. It sports a USB Type-C connector and, to the delight of many, a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

It's running on Android 9 Pie with One UI and boasts a triple-camera configuration on the rear that's composed of a 12-megapixel wide lens, 12-megapixel telephoto, and 16-megapixel ultrawide sensor. On the front is a 10-megapixel wide snapper.

The Galaxy S10 costs $899.99, while the other variants the Galaxy S10 Plus and Galaxy S10E are priced at $999.99 and $749.99, respectively. They're expected to ship out on March 8.
