Samsung has added a higher-end option to its Galaxy A-series of mid-range devices. The Galaxy A70 boasts a teardrop notch, what Samsung calls an Infinity-U display that's 6.7-inch large with an in-display fingerprint sensor, to boot, and a whopping 20:9 aspect ratio.

At that size, its screen is even bigger than the Galaxy S10's — 6.1 inches — one of Samsung's expensive flagship devices for 2019. This should perhaps come as no surprise. Smartphone displays are getting bigger, and the Galaxy A70 seems committed to following this trend while maintaining a comfortable fit by making its screen taller, not wider. That means it should be easier to wield and use, and since it's running the Samsung One UI, which lowers onscreen elements to make them reachable, that's a guarantee.

Galaxy A70

In terms of design, the Galaxy A70 seems practically identical to the Galaxy A50 that was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this past February. Both have a triple-camera system on the back, and they also both use Super AMOLED displays, and their outer shells are made of what Samsung calls "3D Glasstic."

Inside is where things get more interesting, 6 GB of RAM make the Galaxy A70 the top-performing handset out of all A-series phones. That's partnered with the decent Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor, garbage by flagship phone standards but perfectly fit for mid-range capabilities.

Similar to the Galaxy A50, the Galaxy A70 has an in-display fingerprint sensor, a feature also found on the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus. It's not yet certain whether the scanner works as well as the one on Samsung's flagship devices, but it's hard to imagine the results from a cheaper phone could be any better, or at least on par. Samsung has yet to release pricing and release date information for the Galaxy A70, but it's holding "A Galaxy Event" on April 10, so maybe fans will know more by then.
