Verizon has announced its new "Just Kids" data plan, and as its name suggests, it's targeted at the youth of today's technologically modern era.

There's no denying that smartphones have been an integral part of just about everybody's everyday lives, and that includes kids. Now the carrier seems to be capitalizing on that with a new mobile plan specifically designed for them.

For The Young'uns

Just Kids comes with 5 GB of 4G LTE data and unlimited calls and texts to up to 20 contacts approved by parents. There's also DVD-quality streaming, which is another way to say 480p, and a Safety Mode to prevent "data overages," meaning there won't be unexpected fees when they exceed their 5 GB limit, as they'll be switched to slower but unlimited data speeds then.

Now the package includes a subscription to the Smart Family Premium parental controls, which normally costs $9.99. This allows parents to know where their kids are at all times, control what they view on their phone by way of content filters, ensure that their apps are all kid friendly, and limit screen time.

Just The Thing For Kids?

While the 5 GB of data of the Just Kids plan could last for some time, particularly because of the 480p streaming restriction, it should be pointed out that there's no data tethering.

At any rate, this might not exactly be appealing to kids because of the 480p limit and the location tracking feature bundled with the Smart Family Premium parental controls, probably.

The Fine Print

Just Kids starts at $55 a month and goes down to $45 and $35 per month depending on the number of lines customers choose. To avail the plan, subscribers must have an Unlimited plan, either Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, or Above Unlimited. In other words, an adult can't exactly save some cash by signing up for a Just Kids plan for themselves.

Verizon is expected to roll out the new mobile data plan on April 4.
