Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL owners are reporting that they're experiencing random shutdowns on their phones.

The Mountain View company just released its two new devices on May 7 in the United States, and users are already running into serious issues.

Pixel 3a Problems

As reported earlier by Android Police, the bug affects both the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. Owners say that the phones randomly shut down at any time throughout the day when they're not active, and when it does occur, they can't wake their devices anymore.

To bring them back to working condition, they have to do a hard reset by pressing and holding down on the power button for about 30 seconds. This solution fixes the issue, but only until the next shutdown happens, when they have to perform another hard reset to use their phones. However, others say that this method doesn't work for them.

Why Is The Pixel 3a Randomly Shutting Down?

It's unclear what's causing this problem, but according to user reports, it's widespread and affects Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL units across different carriers.

A T-Mobile user posted on Reddit about the bug, saying that they've experienced random shutdowns three times in a day. They've also suspected that a third-party app could be the stem of the problem, so they booted their phone into Safe Mode, a state where every app that isn't first-party software or, in other words, from Google is turned off for the time being. However, the issue still persisted despite that.

Another user speculates that it has something to do with connecting to a Wi-Fi network, saying that the problem doesn't occur when their Wi-Fi is off.

Other owners took things to Google Support pages to report about the bug, and according to them, their phones have shut down three times in a day. Other users also chimed in and said they're running into the same problems.

The Nexus 6P has been plagued with a similar shutdown issue, but it's different in that it happened only when its battery is low, not to mention that it didn't require a hard reset to have it working again.

Google has yet to acknowledge the issue, and at the moment, there is no known fix. For the time being, Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL owners are reportedly returning their devices in the hopes that a replacement won't start randomly shutting down on them.
