Apple could be adding support for dual Bluetooth audio connection to its next-generation iPhone, according to a rumor.

If it turns out to be true, then users could soon have more options when it comes to listening to music and the like.

iPhone Rumors

Citing an Asian supply chain as its source, Japanese blog Mac Otakara says (via Mac Rumors) that the next iPhone, presumably called the iPhone 11, will be able to connect to two Bluetooth devices at the same time.

For instance, a song could play on a pair of Bluetooth headphones and a speaker simultaneously. As another example, the phone could connect to wireless headphones and a smart car system, streaming audio to the earphones while sending GPS directions to the car's sound system.

It should be mentioned that the current iPhone is already capable of connecting to multiple Bluetooth devices, but it supports only one audio profile.

Familiar Feature

This isn't the first time a feature like this has rolled out to smartphones. Samsung already introduced such a function on the Galaxy S8 called Dual Audio Feature, allowing users to play songs and the like on two Bluetooth earphones or speakers using their phone or tablet. Mac Otakara says that the iPhone's dual Bluetooth audio connection support would work in a similar way.

It's unclear what the iPhone model in question exactly is, though it's assumed to be the iPhone 11. Samsung's Dual Audio Feature is based on Bluetooth 5.0, which suggests that Apple's development would be built on it too. If true, older phones such as the iPhone 8 and iPhone X could get the feature by way of a software update.

For the uninitiated, Mac Otakara is a website that's reliable when it comes to Apple rumors, providing plenty of early information in the past that has proven to be accurate. In other words, there's a good chance that a feature like this for iPhones is really in the works. Still, it's recommended to take this with a grain of salt.

The next-generation iPhones are expected to be unveiled in September 2019, and according to the rumor mill, there are three models in the cards: 5.8- and 6.5-inch iPhones with OLED displays and three cameras and a 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD screen and two cameras, all of which are said to sport redesigned antennas.
