Remember the Avengers game Marvel and Square Enix teased way, way back? There hasn't been a peep about it ever since.

But Marvel fans need not wait any longer — the game will be officially unveiled on June 10, at Square Enix's E3 presentation, to be exact.

Marvel Entertainment announced on Twitter that the game will have a worldwide reveal on June 10 in Los Angeles. Square Enix announced the project in January 2017 but has remained mum about it ever since. All that's known at this point is that Tomb Raider studio Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal are both working on the project. Square Enix owns Crystal Dynamics.

Avengers Game

It's more than likely the game will feature familiar faces from the wildly popular franchise. Avengers: Endgame premiered just this April — and broke all sorts of box office records in the process — which means Marvel's universe remains fresh on people's minds, making June 10 an opportune time to reveal the game and create plenty of hype. There's no guarantee that Square Enix will be able to sustain that hype all through the game's release date, though.

Besides Marvel characters making appearances, other details remain largely unclear. For instance, it's not even clear what this game's genre is going to be. Is it action? Is it adventure? No fan knows at this point. The more important question is how it ties to the broader tapestry of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, or whether it hews closer to the comic books instead of the films. In any case, the timing is definitely right — Endgame is starting to lose steam, and there are likely people now craving for anything new that's Avengers-related.

Avengers Game Story And Timeline

As mentioned, the game was first teased in 2017; back then it was referred to as "Avengers Project." Few details were given at the time, though the initial teaser did include some of the Avengers' iconic weapons, such as Captain America's shield. There have been no additional information about the game thus far, especially pertaining to the game's possible timeline or story. Given the events of Endgame, this game would almost certainly have to take place ahead of the most recent film.

Per recently uncovered job listings, it was also revealed that Square Enix intends for this title to be "Game of the Year" material.
