After Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the next major Nintendo Switch title to get Labo VR support.

Nintendo has begun rolling out a new patch for Ultimate that brings an assortment of "fighter adjustments," and introduces a new VR mode in conjunction with the Labo VR kit. This mode brings "a whole new perspective on the Smash action," according to Nintendo.

To access it, a player obviously must have the Toy-Con VR Goggles from the Labo VR kit. When in this mode, players can fight up to three AI opponents offline while viewing the whole action through their headset. They can also sit back and watch AI battles or just look around the game's 3D maps instead.

"Dozens" of stages are apparently supported in VR mode, but the downside is it's not compatible for online play or local wireless matches. A blog post also confirms that the new patch also adds a new amiibo journey mode, and lets players use amiibo fighters in Battle Arena.

Nintendo Labo VR

Nintendo released the Labo VR kit in April as part of the Labo lineup of accessories. It works as a standalone Toy-Con and includes its own suite of minigames. But when used with Super Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild, it offers a VR mode that lets players play through courses in 3D VR. To be clear, the experience doesn't convert those titles into full-fledged VR titles. While the Switch is a powerful device, it's not the kind of powerhouse console that can run graphics-intensive VR titles.

New Spirit Board Event

In addition to the new patch, it appears a new Spirit Board event has been announced. It's called Super Smash Sisters, and it feature heroines from a coterie of games, including the Legendary Spirits Pyra, Mythra, and Krystal. Not only that, but players will also be able to unlock a brand-new spirit Peachette. The Super Smash Sisters event will run from May 31 through June 5.

Ultimate came out in December 2018 and has since become one of the best-selling titles on Nintendo's hybrid gaming machine. It's also received heaps of accolades from various publication, with some regarding it as the best Super Smash Bros. titles to date. It includes virtually every single character that has ever appeared throughout the series' entire run, and for the first time, offers a story-heavy Adventure Mode.
