Google and Amazon have removed firearm-related product listings on their respective shopping platforms.

According to reports, ammunition or magazines were readily available on both sites as recently as Monday.

"All sellers are required to follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action, including potential removal of their account," a statement released by Amazon reads.

"Our hearts go out to the victims of gun violence," said Caroline Klapper-Matos, a spokesperson from Google. She added that the company is "working to prevent these instances from occurring."

Amazon, Google Remove Gun-Related Products

Both companies assured that the listings, which violated their policies, were removed from their shopping platforms within 24 hours after they were alerted to their existence. The Washington Post was first to discover the firearm-related listings.

According to CNN, Google has banned the sale of firearm and firearm-related products, with the exception of safety accessories like trigger locks, from Google Shopping since at least 2012. Meanwhile, Amazon's policies clearly state that listing firearms and ammunition is not allowed on the e-commerce site.

This is not the first time that firearms and firearm-related products were found on popular websites. In 2016, a reporter for BuzzFeed News successfully arranged the purchase of a gun through Facebook. The popular social media site prohibits private sales of guns.

Firearm-related accessories also appear on the crafts website Etsy.

More Than 30 Dead In Weekend Mass Shootings

The move comes a few days after two deadly mass shooting events claimed the lives of more than 30 people in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas.

Last Saturday, a gunman open-fired at a Walmart in El Paso, killing 22 people and injuring more than two dozen others. The suspect, 21-year-old Patrick Crucius, has been arrested and charged with capital murder.

On Sunday, another nine people were killed in a mass shooting at a popular nightlife district in downtown Dayton. The gunman, Connor Betts, was killed by the police.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, there has been 253 mass shootings in the United States in 2019. More thahn 8,000 have died due to gun violence.
