For the third time in a row, Google Assistant has been declared the superior digital assistant in an IQ Test conducted by Loup Ventures.

This year, the firm once again asked Google Assistant, Apple Siri, and Amazon Alexa to answer 800 questions. In the end, the Google Assistant emerged victorious, answering 92.9 percent of the questions correctly and understanding 100 percent of the querries that were made.

Apple Siri came in second place with 83.1 percent of questions answered correctly. Amazon Alexa trailed behind, delivering only 79.8 percent correct answers.

Google Assistant, Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa Battle

The three digital assistants were tested in five categories: Local, Commerce, Navigation, Information, and Command. Each digital assistant was graded on two metrics: first, did it understand what is being asked and second, did it deliver the correct response?

The test was conducted using the Google Assistant on a Pixel XL running Android 9 Pie, Siri on iOS 12.4, and Alexa via the iOS app. Cortana, which was included in previous tests, was eliminated this year due to changes announced by Microsoft earlier this year.

The results published on Friday, Aug. 16, found that Google Assistant is superior in four out of five categories. It, however, was bested by Siri in the "Command" category, proving that Apple's digital assistant is more useful for phone-related functions like texting or playing music.

The biggest disparity was in the category "Commerce." Google Assistant trumped both Siri and Alexa in questions related to products or services and shopping with a score of 92 percent. The study also found that Google Express is as efficient as Amazon in purchasing or restocking products.

Digital Assistants Are Improving Fast

Google Assistant also topped the same IQ Test conducted in 2018 when it scored 86 percent and 2017 when it only answered 74.8 percent of questions corrrectly. However, Loup Ventures said that the other digital assistants are catching up fast.

Based on their data, Google Assistant improved 7 percentage points while Siri gained 5 percentage points since last year's test. Alexa, while it continues to lag behind its competitors, has the most significant improvement across all categories, getting 18 percentage points.
