SiriusXM is making its Premier service more affordable for students.

This move undercuts similar packages of its competitors, such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music. It's even cheaper than what Pandora, which is owned by SiriusXM, has to offer.

SiriusXM Student Discount

SiriusXM is now launching a new Student Premier plan that costs only $4 a month, which is normally priced at $13 a month.

To be clear, it includes everything that's expected from a Premier subscription, including access to all of the platform's music, over 200 channels free of commercials, and features like Personalized Stations Powered by Pandora. In other words, it's not a toned-down version of the service or something along those lines.

Before signing up, students will have to verify that they're really students by providing their school's name and their email address. One word of caution, though: Canceling a plan with SiriusXM needs to be phoned in, so it's not as easy as going to the website and ending a subscription there.

Quick Comparison

In contrast to its rivals, SiriusXM's Student Premier subscription is $1 less than the usual plans among the current brood. For instance, Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music offers discounted prices for students at $4.99 a month.

However, Amazon Music Unlimited for students has got SiriusXM beat with its $0.99 a month offering.

It's also worth mentioning that Spotify's student subscription comes with access to Hulu and Showtime for $4.99 a month, so it sort of edges SiriusXM's plan by adding shows and the like to the mix for just $1 more.

Now the SiriusXM branding may be associated with in-car radio streaming, but as of late, it's been expanding to other platforms. Case in point, the student plan is available on smartphones, smart speakers, smart TVs, tablets, laptops, streaming devices, and more.
