Google Play Store has been redesigned with a cleaner look. The complete visual redesign is not only fresh to the eyes, but is said to be an improvement in the way users look for apps in the Play Store.

Google Play Store Visual Redesign

On Aug. 22, Google announced that it has redesigned the Play Store with a new look. Right off the bat, it is easy to see that the green header is gone and has been replaced by a plain white one, giving it a cleaner and fresher look.

What’s more, just like iOS app icons, the Google Play Store app icons now all appear as uniform rounded squares that are cleaner, consistent, and “visually more appealing” as per Google Play’s icon design specifications.

The redesigned Play Store is out now, but there is so far no dark mode for the fresh design.

App Discovery And Accessibility

With over 2 billion monthly active users, Google Play’s redesign also improves app discovery and accessibility to help users find the right app. Now, the Play Store has separate tabs for games, apps, books, and movies and TV shows at the bottom for phones and in a left navigation bar for tablets and Chrome devices.

With separate destinations, users can more easily find the specific content that they are looking for. Particularly for games, which comprise 33 percent of all app store installs, the category separation would certainly make it easier for users to find what they’re really looking for.

Updated Store Listing Page

“Once users find the right app or game, the updated store listing page layout surfaces richer app information at the top of each page as well as a more prominent call-to-action button,” said Google Play Design Lead Boris Valusek. This way, users can easily find information on the app to make a decision whether or not to install it.

The redesign now also has a "Recommended for you" section that will recommend apps specifically for the user.
