There are a lot of Wear OS smartwatches in the market, but there's always room for another great one, especially if it offers something new.

While Google has developed Wear OS for wearables, the company has yet to release its own brand of smartwatch. It has long been rumored to introduce the Pixel Watch, though, and now, new leaks shed more light on this highly anticipated wearable as well as its surprising features.

Google Pixel Watch Finally Takes Shape

While the tech company continues to stay mum on its plans, a newly published patent that Google filed back in 2017 revealed a number of details on the upcoming smartwatch.

Dutch news website LetsGoDigital discovered the patent, which is published in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It featured outlines and sketches of the Pixel Watch design, indicating the presence of a built-in camera shown right in the center of the display screen. The patent even titled the product as "Camera Watch."

Putting a camera in a smartwatch is an intriguing move for Google and a good way to stand out from the rest of the market. None of the biggest players in the field offer a built-in camera, which could help the company establish its presence among well-known wearable brands, as Apple, Samsung, Garmin, and Fitbit, among others.

Other notable design elements from the patent's sketch include a rotating ring that's quite similar to the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2.

The Future Of Google Wearables

The speculation around Google's upcoming smartwatch isn't dying down, especially after the company paid $40 million to Fossil for its secret smartwatch technology in early 2019.

The deal involves intellectual property related to wearable technology that's still under development, but neither Google nor Fossil provide much more details than that. Stacey Burr, who is the VP of Product Management of Wear OS, simply said that it is expected to be part of the Wear OS family.

"We're very optimistic about the future of smartwatches and the role for Google, Wear OS and our partners within that evolving space," Burr told Wareable. "This is a very vital category and we will continue to invest and be part of this dynamic ecosystem."

More Google Leaks

Aside from the patent found on Google Pixel Watch, there are also new photos getting circulated that provide a better peek at the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones.
