(Photo : Apple) iOS 13 has a data-saving feature aptly called Low Data Mode.

With iOS 13, Apple introduced a new Low Data Mode for iPhone users, which is perfect for those who are on a limited mobile plan.

When it's enabled, just about any background activity that uses data is shut down. That includes automatic app updates and photo backups, among others. Background App Refresh will stop working as well. In short, anything that doesn't really need data will be cut off.

The feature's description sums it up nicely:

"Low Data Mode helps apps on your iPhone reduce their network data use."

Compatible Devices

Seeing as it's an iOS 13 feature, Low Data Mode is available only on certain iPhones that are compatible with the software version: the iPod touch (seventh generation), iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.

Of course, the data-saving mode is available on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, since they all shipped with iOS 13.

Take note that Low Data Mode is also available in iPadOS. The process of turning it on or off is more or less the same, but needless to say, Low Data Mode for cellular data is available only on, well, cellular iPad models.

iOS 13 also came with a system-wide dark mode, and it only takes a couple of taps to turn it on.
