Cryptocurrency users now have a new smartphone to suit their needs with the launch of the new HTC Exodus 1s.

The new blockchain phone is the second unit the Taiwanese tech company has released, following last year's Exodus 1. However, unlike its predecessor, the Exodus 1s is a more affordable yet slightly less powerful option for users.

The $244 Exodus 1s features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, while the $699 Exodus 1 comes with a Snapdragon 845 chip.

Capable Of Running A Full Bitcoin Node

The HTC Exodus 1s's main draw is its ability to run a full bitcoin node, which is a first for any smartphone according to its maker.

Phil Chen, decentralized chief officer at HTC, told Forbes that the Exodus 1s can relay, confirm, and validate transactions using bitcoins. This helps give the device more privacy during transactions and can even boost the security of networks.

However, there's a trade off to running a full bitcoin node on a smartphone.

Users would have to connect the Exodus 1s to WiFi network and keep it plugged in to a power source while using the feature, according to HTC. They also have to insert an SD card with at least 400 GB capacity so that it could handle a complete Bitcoin ledger.

Despite its designation as a blockchain phone, the Exodus 1s doesn't have a mining node feature.

Under the hood, the HTC Exodus 1s features entry-level hardware built around a Snapdragon 435 chip. It has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.

The new smartphone also has a 5.7-inch HD display screen and a single 13 megapixel rear-facing camera. It comes with a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack and charges its battery via MicroUSB.

Marketing Its Phones To Cryptocurrency Enthusiasts

The Exodus 1 and Exodus 1s are viewed as HTC's latest attempt to appeal to a niche market: cryptocurrency users. The company has been struggling to keep up with competitors when it comes to smartphone sales, prompting it to switch to a more targeted audience.

By offering the Exodus 1s at a much more affordable price compared to its predecessor, HTC hopes to attract cryptocurrency enthusiasts who might want to try out a blockchain phone.

The new HTC phone is available through the smartphone maker's website in Europe, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and the UAE. However, it won't be offered in the United States.

The Exodus 1S can be bought using cryptocurrencies, including Binance coin, bitcoin, bitcoin cash, ethereum, and litecoin.
