PC gaming platform Steam has led the PC gaming market for a long time. Still, it needs to keep the community alive and kicking with events and promotions to secure their lead.

With the rise of the Epic Game Store, Steam will have to be careful not to be taken over. The Epic Game Store is currently running its first-ever Halloween Sale, so Steam has to keep up.

Steam has always been making sales for special occasions like the Steam Summer Sale, Steam Holiday Sale, and the Steam Halloween Sale. However, with Epic Games Store having their first-ever Halloween Sale of their own, they have to offer something bigger or else they risk being outshined.

Thankfully, Steam knows fully well the threat they're facing, and gamers benefit for it. For Halloween, the store is offering up to 66% discounts to recent select horror games.

Here's a quick rundown on Steam's Halloween offerings this year.

Slasher Discounts

Iconic horror video games fall victim to Steam's slasher fantasies.

Great games like Prey, Resident Evil 2, Dead by Daylight, Resident Evil 7, Call of Cthulu, Friday the 13th, and Hellblade, Senua's Sacrifice are experiencing a 50% slash off their price.

Meanwhile, games like Dying Light, Vampyr, and Sunless Sea have 66% off their price.

Concurrent with but unrelated to the Halloween Sale, games such as Monster Hunter: World, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Grand Theft Auto V, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege, Planet Coaster, the Dark Souls series, the XCOM series, and the Divinity: Original Sin series are also offered at a discount right now.

Minor Steam Event

Unfortunately, this Halloween Sale is only a minor Steam event. Unlike major Steam events like the Summer Sale and the Holiday Sale, the Halloween Sale doesn't come with any activities, community events, or unlockables.

In major sales, users could also get a chance to earn cosmetic items for their Steam profiles, collect event-specific trading cards, and unlock wallpapers and emoticons that you could only obtain during the event.

The Halloween-themed sale will last until Nov. 1, 10:00 AM PST.

On the other sides of the fence

As previously mentioned, the Epic Game Store is also holding a similar Halloween sale. Epic's sale started early; they have the sale up for a week now.

Epic's discounts hover around the same rate as Steam, but what they have that Steam doesn't is Borderlands 3. Borderlands 3 is an Epic-Game-Store-timed exclusive, so it'll be a while before Steam users could play the game on their platform. Borderlands 3's Super Deluxe Edition is currently 25% off at the Epic Game Store.

Epic's Halloween Sale will end along with Steam's on Nov. 1.

Meanwhile, the two stores' silent competitor, GOG.com, is also having its sale. With a smaller collection of games, there are only 300 titles in GOG's discount bin. GOG's sale will last for much longer, though, as it'll end as late as Nov. 4.
