Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will finally come to a conclusion in its seventh and final season. Coming a long way since its debut in September 2014, Agents of SHIELD will be rounding everything up in season 7. The final season will be produced by ABC Studios and was announced ahead of the release of the sixth season and will be used to tie up any loose threads remaining. The seventh season is expected to appear during either ABC's summer or winter lineup of 2020.

The seventh season will be tied to the sixth season, as it entered writing and production together with the sixth. So much so that an interview with showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen by ShowBiz Junkies has them saying that the sixth season was purposely left "with a massive question mark" to be answered later. Being confirmed to write two seasons allows them to treat them as one but with a break in between.

It was also announced during the last San Diego Comic-Con that Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, and Jeff Ward were all going to be returning for the seventh season. A surprise from the end of the sixth season, however, was that a Life Model Decoy of Phil Coulson would be appearing in the seventh season, obviously to be played by Clark Gregg.

Tying Up The Loose Ends

Agents of SHIELD is a television super-hero drama based on Marvel Comic's organization S.H.I.E.L.D and is largely based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It acknowledges events that occur in the MCU but has largely diverged at some points. While Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, was thought to be dead in the MCU, he remains alive in SHIELD and handles the organization to protect the Earth.

While the series mostly kept to the same timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the secrecy of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame caused a great divergence in the timeline of the SHIELD series.  The sixth season chose not to depict the large universe-wide loss of life brought about by Thanos' snap. Perhaps the time-traveling seen in the finale of the sixth season will address the difference in events, as well as the new threat posed by the Chronicoms. We will have to wait for the seventh season to find out.

Where to watch Agents of SHIELD

It seems that Agents of SHIELD is nowhere to be found on Disney+, despite a report by Variety finding Agents of SHIELD to be its most popular show. The study by SimilarWeb cited by Variety shows that during the free trial for Disney+ launched in the Netherlands, six of the ten most-streamed on the platform, six were television shows while the remaining four were movies. Agents of SHIELD was the most popular television series, second only to Avengers: Infinity War and followed by Star Wars: The Clone Wards. Of course, the list will be changed with the release of Avengers: Endgame on Disney+ next December 11.

Agents of SHIELD can be purchased on iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon. The latest episodes can be viewed on ABC and HULU the week after or during the day of release for subscribers.  While the sixth season of SHIELD has finally been available on Netflix just last September.
