Now is the best time to spend some money on holiday shopping, as Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals are here, and you can save money with massive discounts shops offer, including eCommerce and retail giant, Amazon.

For this year's Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Amazon is offering its own devices up for sale, and one of them is the Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Gen, an upgrade from the 2nd Gen, in which, according to Engadget, it has better speakers, better aesthetics, and includes a digital clock.

Amazon Echo Dot Pros and Cons

The Amazon Echo Dot is now on sale on Amazon.

However, is it worth getting?

The Amazon Echo Dot is basically a smaller version of the Amazon Echo speaker. But, it's more than just a speaker for your music, as it's also Alexa-enabled, meaning it can also work as an AI assistant such as Apple's Siri and Google Assistant.

If you are thinking of getting the Amazon Echo Dot, here are its set of pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Inexpensive

  • Powerful audio quality

  • Simple but nice design

  • Alexa-enabled

  • Addition of hardware buttons

  • Can always hear you

  • Small and compact

Cons:

  • Sound quality at max volume lessens

  • Auxiliary cable not included

  • Alexa app is somewhat confusing and basic

Design

When it comes to its design and hardware, it still includes a 3.5mm audio jack if you need it, although it doesn't come with the cable upon purchase. Still, it's a great touch if you need to have it connected to another device.

It has a good design, albeit simple. You can choose from various color options Amazon currently has.

It's compact and easy to carry around, plus it comes with hardware buttons for ease of use. The digital clock is also a handy addition.

Speaker

As a speaker, it does its job well--and far much better than the 2nd generation, according to Tom's Guide. However, some noted that it has a bit of a problem when the music is played at max level, distorting the sound.

Although it has a good and more powerful audio quality than before, it's not quite there yet.

Smart Assistant

More than a speaker, many use the Amazon Echo Dot as an assistant.

Alexa is the AI assistant made by Amazon. You simply need to say a command, and Alexa will do it for you. Including playing music, shopping, and reminding you of things you need to do. You can also ask it questions, and it will scour the internet for an answer.

However, not everyone is amazed by Alexa--especially when compared to other AI assistants, with some saying it only knows general knowledge. It's something that won't be bothersome unless you want a brilliant assistant that you can ask complicated questions.

It can hear from quite a distance, just as long as you start with the proper words or phrases.

Overall, the Amazon Echo Dot has a reasonable price--now more than ever--for some good function. It's a good speaker and a good assistant for first-timers.
