Pokémon GO December 2019 Update: You Can Now Catch Pokémon in More Locations Worldwide

Since launching the Pokémon GO experience in 2016, Niantic Inc. has released an exciting range of both major and minor feature updates. In an effort to improve the quality of gameplay for Trainers, the team behind the hit augmented reality video game announced that Pokémons are now appearing in more locations worldwide.

Perhaps the best thing about the mobile AR game is that while it keeps people glued to their screens, it also encourages its players actually to go out to explore places and meet other Trainers. After all, the company claims that one of its core principles is exploration.

But not all Trainers are given the equal opportunity to "catch 'em all." One common feedback from Trainers is that Pokémon and Pokéstops are sparsely distributed outside of busy cities and towns.

In a recent blog post, the Pokémon GO Team admitted that there are areas in the world where creatures are more densely populated. To continue improving the Trainer experience, Pokémons in these places will now be more spread out.

"While listening to community feedback, we look for ways to improve our game and strengthen the relationship that Trainers have with the world around them," the Pokémon GO Team announced on their website.

"Most recently, our focus has been dedicated to improving the experience of Trainers who live and play in areas of the world that may not have as many PokéStops or Pokémon to encounter as others," they added.

Thanks to this Pokémon migration update, the number of locations where creatures can be found in the wild worldwide has now nearly doubled.

More Pokémon GO Updates

In October, Niantic Labs rolled out the beta version of Wayfarer, a new tool that allows Trainers to review nominations for PokéStops and Gyms. By creating this tool, the company is encouraging eligible players in certain countries to help them determine more places to play around the world.

A month after its global launch, the Wayfarer Team reported that they have seen more than 750K submitted nominations and 760K reviewed Wayspots.

"By expanding the reviewer base we've seen a 2x increase in Wayspots going live, and 3x increase in edits approved. As a result of doubling our reviewer base, we've been able to accept over 340K new Wayspots since launch!" they wrote on their blog.

Pokémon GO December Events 2019

Meanwhile, everyone thought the team has closed out the year with Pokémon GO's December Community Day. Apparently, there are more surprises awaiting Trainers, and the biggest news perhaps is that they're bringing back Pokémon GO Holidays this 2019.

Starting Dec. 24, Trainers can encounter new Pokémon in costumes, special Field Research tasks, and lots of in-game rewards and bonuses. Never-before-seen Ice-type Pokémon and winter-themed avatar items will also be available on the day before Christmas, so watch out, Trainers!
