You can call people via the Amazon Echo. Be sure, though, that the person you're calling is an Echo user, too. Nevertheless, you can call another person's cellphone also, even if he or she does not have an Echo. You can call people in your contacts list using the device, in case you can't find your own mobile phone. All you need to do is configure a couple of things first.

2. Make Echo Your Intercom at home

If you've got more than one Echo at home, you can use make them as your in-home intercom. This is perfect for parents with kids who are quite difficult to call when it's time for lunch or dinner or bathing. All you have to do is say, "Alexa, make an announcement. Then speak your announcement by simply saying, "Hey! Dinner is ready!"

3. Book an Uber with Amazon Echo

Whether you're headed for the airport or the grocery for some shopping, Alexa can be your assistant by calling a ride for you. All it takes to set up with Uber first by opening the Alexa app on your mobile phone. Then, tap the menu button found on the app's top-left. Tap the "skills and games" option and search for Uber. Tap Enable Skill and link it to your Uber account.

Amazon makes it simpler and easier to order stuff via its website using Alexa. All you have to do is say something like, "Alexa, order [your choice of the item]."
