LG has officially announced its follow up to its first smartphone with a curved display. The LG G Flex2 improves upon its predecessor in many areas.

It was widely expected that LG would release a follow up to last year's LG G Flex, which featured a unique 6-inch curved display and LG's "self healing" rear case. LG officially took the wraps off the LG G Flex2 to showcase how the smartphone improves upon its predecessor.

"The original G Flex demonstrated LG's pioneering spirit and with the G Flex2 we have refined the curved form factor, staying true to our philosophy of innovation for a better life," said Juno Cho, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "The G Flex2 not only has the stunning looks, it also has the powerful guts to be at the cutting edge of current smartphone technology. Simply put, it's a true head-turner in every sense of the word."

The LG G Flex2 features a smaller 5.5-inch curved P-OLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a pixel density of 403 pixels per inch. It's powered by a 64-bit Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, has 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage, and a microSD expansion slot.

The LG G Flex2 ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop and its camera capabilities include a 13-megapixel rear camera with laser auto focus and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter. It also retains the LG G Flex's "self healing" rear case.

LG hasn't announced a specific release date for the LG G Flex2, but once we hear any dates, we'll be sure to pass them on to you.
