Oppo keeps up with anime fans

This isn't the first time Oppo has done this for anime fans, from the Tamagotchi crossover last month to their Gundam edition Reno Ace. However, fans should be quick to purchase the Evangelion phone since it's only limited to 10,000 units as compared to Gundam edition Reno Ace which was capped at 30,000 units.

Fans of the series will immediately look at the phone and see the "Human Instrumentality Project" vibe on the box, and it's as if NERV themselves delivered this top-secret gadget for you for some weird reason. Once you open it, you'll see a white capsule inspired by the mecha's entry plug concealing the phone inside.

The phone itself is inspired by elements from Unit-01, like the purple paint, fluorescent green accent, and armor details. As a finishing touch, Oppo even added an electroplated side profile of Unit-01 on the bottom. The phone isn't the only thing Oppo focused on, and the company took great care of customizing its accessories as well.

Let's begin with the SIM ejection tool that looks like a miniaturized Spear of Longinus, but smaller. There is also a case that is styled as Unit-01 as well as a pair of NERV-branded earbuds. Also, the phone's charger is designed like a mecha's launch pad.

What else to look forward?

The phone's software interface also has some upgrades of its own. The fan-favorite would be the animated A.T. Field overlay, which shows up whenever the phone is being charged via a SuperVOOC or AirVOOC. If you're ever interested in a using a super-fast charger for your Evangelion food, go for the 65W SuperVOOC 2.0.

The phone is also 5G ready and is very similar to the standard Reno Ace 2 that has Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with different storage and RAM options like 8GB and 256GB, respectively. It comes with a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel and a 90Hz refresh rate with HDR10+ certification. Dolby Atmos stereo speakers for unparalleled sound; as for the cameras, it sports a 16-megapixel on the front and 48-megapixel f/1.7 main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and two 2-megapixel special effects cameras.

According to Engadget Chinese, the Reno Ace 2 EVA Limited Edition will be released at the same time with an Asuka Langley Soryu-themed Oppo Watch and a Rei Ayanami-themed Enco W31 true wireless earbuds. All of the items will go on sale on June 1st. The phone will cost $616, $308 for the watch, and $56 for the earbuds.

So if you are a fan of the series, make sure to spend that money and quickly buy all of it, especially the phone that only has 10,000 units produced. So if Shinji asks, why you're willing to spend this much cash, just answer, why not?
