Racist Logo: Magic: The Gathering Bans 1994 Rare Cards Depicting 'Racism'

Have you ever tried playing Magic: The Gathering card game with your friends? If not, here are some of the things you should check out.

Amid the George Floyd's death and several 'Black Lives Matter' protests happening in the country, anything that depicts or related to 'racism' and 'discrimination' are now beginning to be wiped out from any medium.

Just like that, on Wednesday, June 10, Wizards of the Coast that brought Magic: The Gathering has announced that it will be permanently banned one of its rarest cards in history, the 'Invoke Prejudice.'

These cards were printed back in 1994. Since then, the issue of the game's judgment with Nazis and white supremacists has been a controversy. But today, it will no longer be an issue as the game said that the Invoke Prejudice cards "will be banned in all sanctioned tournament play."

"There's no place for racism in our game, nor anywhere else," the company said Wednesday. "The events of the past weeks and the ongoing conversation about how we can better support people of color have caused us to examine ourselves, our actions, and our inactions."

They also reiterated that they should not create the said cards, years ago. And apologize for any inconvenience it did make for the last two decades.

"We have removed this card image from our database due to its racist depiction, text, or combination thereof. Racism in any form is unacceptable and has no place in our games, nor anywhere else."

Why was 'Invoke Prejudice' racist?

Forbes reported that it should be a long time ago that 'Invoke Prejudice' was deleted. The card number it was assigned was '1488,' which was a combined powerful logo for white supremacists.

Not to be assumptive, but the card's artist was also a known anti-Nazi advocate, Harold McNeill.

However, as explained by Hugh McMullen, former Wizards Director of Communications, the cards are not meant to symbolize 'racism' or discrimination, but actually the other way around.

"Look at a typical Magic set today," McMullen said, "There are black characters in the world inspired by Greek mythology. We spent a year on worlds inspired by Asian cultures. There are women warriors, women wizards, women sages, and women goblins. Whoever you are, you can see yourself in the game."

'Gone with the wind' also stops airing

Not only Magic: The Gathering fixed their mistake during these incidents today. The 1939 classic film 'Gone with the Wind' was also taken off by HBO Max due to its 'racial prejudices' scenes and storyline.
