There are many PC parts to think about when you're building or upgrading your gaming PC, and few pieces are more puzzling than memory (or RAM) amid that mountain of specs. It seems easy at baseline, because there is the ability of the RAM to think about, with 8 GB to 16 GB usually appropriate for mid- to high-end systems. Yet as you dig deeper, RAM is astonishingly complex.

You will have to consider issues outside the power, such as whether you want to take advantage of dual or quad-channel memory, the memory speed you want to run at, and maybe even more complicated CAS latency and memory timing. Here are several excellent RAM kits, from stalwart DDR3 RAM to fit in an older system to high-end DDR4 RAM that can overrun crazy speeds.

Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro

Best RAM

The name of Corsair has become synonymous with reliable, high-performance RAM, and a prime example of this is the Vengeance RGB Pro. Due to their powerful heat spreaders, this package of memory can comfortably clock up to 4,600MHz.

The Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro also features edge-to-edge RGB lighting. For its mesmerizing and dynamic effects, you will be able to customize it down to each LED. It also comes at a relatively reasonable price for RAM, which offers both a premium aesthetic and fantastic results.

G.Skill Ripjaws V

G.Skill is known for its quality, and its value model of the Ripjaws V series can help you save money on a RAM kit without losing performance. For example, this 16 GB (3,000MHz) memory set is more affordable than most other RAM kits with the same capacity and speed.

Alternatively, you can buy a 16 GB G.Skill Ripjaws V (2,400MHz) RAM kit easily and save some dough, and then easily overclock it to 3,000MHz without any extra voltage drop. The G.Skill Ripjaws V also features a relatively reserved and short heatsink, so most PC should work well.

Kingston HyperX Fury

The Kingston HyperX Fury is your best option for a DDR3 RAM package if you are developing or updating an older device that is not compatible with DDR4 memory. With its 1.866MHz speed, it is a bit sluggish by modern standards, but this smart DDR3 can auto-detect your device components to overclock itself to the maximum possible speeds. Best of all, it's pretty cheap, so grab this memory pack until it eventually sells out.

Crucial Ballistix

Best Budget RAM

Computer memory is one of those things which can very easily get costly. Check out the Crucial Ballistix if you're trying to spend less than $100, or even $80, on RAM. This basic RAM kit might lag behind RGB lighting or any pronounced heatsinks. But with its 3,200MHz memory speed and relatively low CAS Latency of 16, it gets the job done.

The Crucial brand is almost synonymous with durability, so that you certainly get a reliable product here.

HyperX Predator DDR4 RGB

Best Gaming RAM

HyperX Predator DDR4 RGB is a beautiful gaming-engineered RAM pack. Like other DDR4 memory packs, not starting at a base of 2,400MHz or 2,666MHz, this memory starts at 2,933MHz. It can also be found running at a native speed of 4,000MHz. It even hasn't started to think about the potential for overclocking yet. Of course, it has adjustable lighting like any other good. Modern memory kit should. By integrating Infrared Sync tech to ensure that lighting effects are always synchronized across all DIMMs, HyperX took RGB one step further. Overall, the gaming RAM is doing just as well as it seems.
