With stiff competition in the smartphone market, manufacturers try to add unique features and outdo their competition. For ZTE, the Chinese company opts to launch the world's first 5G smartphone with an under-display camera in about two weeks, as reported by Tech Radar.

Set to launch on Sept. 1 in China, ZTE Axon 20 5G will be the world's first 5G phone that bears an under-display camera. The Guangdong, China-based company has beaten many other phone makers like Samsung, Oppo, and Xiaomi that have been working on this technology in recent years to produce a smartphone with this camera technology.

ZTE Corporation is a global telecommunications provider founded in 1985. Since 1997, the company has been listed as an A-share company on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. In December 2004, it became the first Chinese company to both have A and H shares as it has been listed on the Hong Kong's Main Board of The Stock Exchange.

Currently, ZTE has the most market capitalization and revenue in China's A-share market, and it is expected to keep its status with this new smartphone.

Meanwhile, other companies are also expected to hit the market later this year while it is yet to be seen how the under-display camera will affect the quality of the photos and how the display is maintained.

ZTE Axon 20 5G Leaked Specs

Pending the launch, the company did not spill out the details of the ZTE Axon 20 5G yet, but the specifications were recently spotted on TENAA. The phone will have a 6.92-inch OLED screen and will run on Android 10 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G system on a chip (SoC) and an octa-core SoC clocked at 2.4GHz.

The TENAA leak also shows that Axon 20 will be loaded with quad-camera: a 64MP primary camera on the rear, an 8MP ultra-wide shooter, and 2MP macro and depth cameras as well as a 32MP selfie cam.

The ZTE Axon 5G is likely to come in three configurations with 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB RAM as well as 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage, respectively. Meanwhile, the smartphone will have a 4,120mAh battery.

ZTE Axon 5G: It is not a flagship phone

However, despite tagging it as the world's first 5G mobile phone with an under-display camera, ZTE Axon 5G phone may fall under the consumer's expectations. Primarily, the Qualcomm's processor that will be used in the new ZTE phone is Snapdragon 765G SoC, which is a mid-range chip and is a standard for higher-end of midrange smartphones. This is far from Qualcomm's flagship chips like the Snapdragon 865 and 865 Plus that support 2.8 and 3.1GHz systems. Also, the TENAA leak showed that the phone will have a fingerprint scanner located under the display.

While these are just leaks, we are yet to see whether the ZTE Axon 5G phone will include these features when it launches on Sept. 1 in China. However, it is not yet clear when it will be available outside of China.
