The Korean Culture Center Washington, DC (KCCDC) has announced its first-ever virtual exhibit for the 2020 Korean Media Art Series that will be starting this Friday, Sept. 4, at 6:00 p.m. until Sept. 24, 2020.

K-Art at Home: Yaloo

According to the press release, the KCCDC will be featuring the work of eponymous multimedia artist Ji Yeon Lim, who is best known for her stage name Yaloo.

The Korean artist will be featuring four of her single-channel video works, namely, Sebum CoachNew Millenium Workout RoutineNew Year Parade, and Korea Workout Routine.

More About the Artist

"As an artist, Yaloo explores contemporary consumer culture and symbolism in the context of her Asian cultural heritage, rooted in her experiences and attitude acquired while living abroad," the press release reads.

Yaloo is best known for creating vivid digital works and continuously experiments with the infinite possibilities of multimedia by mixing a variety of technology-based forms, including projection mapping, single-channel video, digital textiles, media facades, and virtual reality applications.

The result is a stunning and vivid creation that provides the audience with an immersive experience that some would compare to walking through a theme park.

The artist has also participated in tons of international artist residencies, mainly in Asia and America, specializing in media art in unique situations and circumstances.

Ji Yeon Lim has received her BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago focusing on video installation and is a fellowship recipient from a variety of organizations around the world, including the Headlands Art Center in the U.S., Vermont Studio Art Center that is also located in the US, Asia Cultural Center in South Korea, La Bande Vidéo in Canada, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan, and many more.

Furthermore, the accomplished artist is the first-ever recipient of the Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Fellowship from Video Data Bank.

In the Face of COVID-19

Besides featuring the works of Yaloo and showing the Korean culture, the exhibit also aims to help give positive energy to those who are currently affected as well as exhausted by the ongoing global pandemic.

The K-Art at Home: Yaloo exhibit will be done online and viewable through the official KCCDC website.

The Korean Culture Center Washington, D.C. is located at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, which works on strengthening the ties between the two countries.

Nevertheless, the center is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The KCCDC's 2020 Korean Media Art Series will offer several cutting-edge art for the public for the duration of limited in-person events, highlighting the works of diverse, accomplished Korean multimedia artists for the remainder of the year.

The K-Art at Home: Yaloo exhibit will be released online starting on Sept. 4 at 6:00 p.m. and will only be available for a limited time.
