One of Nintendo's longest-running franchise and the world's most favorite plumber, Super Mario, who debuted initially on the Donkey Kong title as a platform run and jump game in 1981. Super Mario's success and fame spanned to a massive franchise that celebrates its 35th Anniversary this year.

Nintendo offered Super Mario on several platforms, including the smartphone platform, and now, Super Mario 64 can be played unofficially on smartphones. Despite Nintendo not releasing an official Super Mario 64, a retro and fan-favorite title in the franchise, several fans and Android tweakers created a way to make that possible.

Super Mario's 35th Anniversary Specials

Super Mario's 35th Anniversary led to several special releases by its mother company, developer, and publisher, Nintendo. The favorite handheld console, Game&Watch, will come 'Back to the Future' style and return with a colored Mario platform game with it exclusively.

Another product from Nintendo for users to enjoy and celebrate Mario's 35th Anniversary is the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars for the Nintendo Switch. The new title from Nintendo will feature a back-to-back-to-back compilation of three Super Mario games in one. Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy are making a 3D remastered version for the Switch.

Another is the Nintendo x PUMA RS-Dreamer Kicks with Super Mario's colors and design theme.

 
Despite Nintendo not releasing an official Google Play or App Store title of Super Mario 64, fans can still re-live and experience the game through the Android smartphone platform. Check out the guide below to know more and play yourself.

Super Mario 64 on Android: How?

XDA Developers, in cooperation with Github, shares the world a new way to play Super Mario 64 on Android devices, even without emulators and ROMs. However, this method needs users to have the original game and title with them. Nintendo's Super Mario 64 should be complete and legitimate for this hack to work.

  • Install Termux from Google Play Store. This is a Linux-based processor application that powers Android Phones.
  • Install the required dependencies inside the Termux environment:

    "pkg install git wget make python getconf zip apksigner clang"

  • Copy and reproduce the correct repository using Git Hubs for Super Mario 64 from VDavid:

    https://github.com/VDavid003/sm64-port-androidcd sm64-port-android (git clone)

  • Copy the baserom of the game using Termux. This should be provided by the user, having its own complete and legitimate copy of SM64.

    termux-setup-storage cp /sdcard/path/to/your/baserom.z64 ./baserom.us.z64

  • Make sure to Get SDL Files and additional requirements from Termux. 

    ./getSDL.sh

  • Start the build; "Jobs" can be increased or decreased depending on the smartphone's CPU core's preference and capacity.

    "make --jobs (number preferred)"

  • If users utilize the Termux correctly, it will result in the creation of Super Mario 64 apk that will be readily available for installation and play.
