The internet outage happened for 18 months after a cable replacement program failed to fix the issue. The Openreach engineers were baffled by the continuous, forcing them to conduct an investigation.

The experts used a monitoring device and found out the root of the problem was an Old TV. The owner was embarrassed and promised not to use the television again.

Openreach's engineers explained that the householder would turn on the TV set at 7:00 a.m. every morning. The electrical interference emitted by the second-hand television would affect the broadband signal, thus causing the outage.

The broadband provider said that the owner didn't want to be identified because he was "mortified" to find out that their old television was causing the problem.

"They immediately agreed to switch it off and not use it again," said Michael Jones, one of the engineers.

Other causes of Internet Outages

According to Fastmetrics' report, there are several reasons why there is an internet outage. The most common issue is network congestion, which happens when many people are accessing the internet all at once in a specific area.

Internet interference could also happen when the link between your device and the server is interrupted, preventing you from connecting. Storms, downed wires, and animals could be the reasons for it. Another one is "operation error," which is usually caused by the internet's wrong installation.
