Lenovo recently launched the next-generation ThinkPad X1 Fold just last month as the world's very first foldable PC. The unit is a 13-inch OLED laptop screen that holds a unique feature, it can be folded at very various angles and also used as a miniature laptop along with a touchscreen keyboard on the very bottom half of the laptop's screen.

The trio of global IT giants join forces: Microsoft, Intel, and Samsung

Now, the trio of global IT giants, Microsoft, Intel, and Samsung, are all teaming up in order to commercialize these foldable laptops. According to a very recent report made by the Korean publication known as ETNews, these three companies have already put down work on this particular project. The upcoming laptops are reportedly going to be based on the Intel "Horseshoe Bend" concept. A similar concept was also employed by the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold.

Interestingly enough, both of the companies have first introduced their different concepts during the CES 2020 back in January. Moreover, both of them are said to feature the known Intel processor. While Intel's very latest version actually gets the known 10nm Tiger Lake architecture, the known Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold also includes the powerful Lakefield processors.

Intel's design is supposedly bigger than that of Lenovo's

Intel's very own design is known to be much bigger than Lenovo's. It's going to be a 17-inch folding device that actually folds into a known 13-inch laptop. Both Samsung and BOE will reportedly supply the known flexible OLED panels for this specific product. While Intel will also expectedly provide the known processor, Microsoft is said to work on the whole operating system adapted for this specific form factor.

The three popular companies will reportedly join in developing the standardized products and supply them to different third-party manufacturers including Dell, HP, Lenovo, and also Samsung itself. What's remaining of these elements of the known laptops is said to be open for the possibility of them to be innovated on.

The future of foldable laptops

After known pioneering work on these foldable smartphones, Samsung is reportedly now joining forces with two of the biggest IT companies in order to develop the foldable laptops.  According to Android Headlines, this isn't even an entirely fresh plan. The known South Korean conglomerate has actually been working on this particular new form factor for the laptops for a couple of years.

A particular industry insider who is reportedly familiar with the whole Horseshoe Bend project spilled the information to ETNews that flexible screens for these foldable laptops are actually expected to go straight into mass production some time at the end of next year.
