PS5 5 vs Xbox Series X: Who is Faster in Speed Tests?

In past releases of both Sony and Microsoft, several reviews result to either one of the consoles claiming the victory. Sony's PlayStation sometimes leads the popularity ratings and polls as it is the eldest between the two, having a massive seven-year gap from its 1994 release compared to Xbox's 2001 debut.

According to Eurogamer. net, the best game to compare both consoles is with Capcom's "Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition" which uses the same rendering modes. The comparative metric should have similar factors and elements to compare and contrast the consoles properly.

"Devil May Cry 5" is a good benchmark testing game because of its targeted 120Hz standard refresh rate output on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Eurogamer tested the game on both consoles in Normal Mode, High-Frame Rate Mode, Ray Tracing Performance Mode, and Ray Tracing Quality Mode.

  • Normal Mode: Xbox Wins with an estimate of eight percent (60 fps)
  • High-Frame Rate Mode: PS5 Wins because of Xbox's API bottleneck (100 fps)
  • Ray Tracing Performance Mode: PS5 Wins with a slim factor of dynamic nature gameplay (1080p)
  • Ray Tracing Quality Mode: Xbox takes the win significantly under 4K video capabilities (2160p)

The game reviews website ultimately decides that Xbox Series X is the overall faster console which dominated all of its tests using the "Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition" remastered game as the metric. The game is old, initially debuting in the previous consoles releases but is ideal because of its rendering modes.

What's With PS5 and Why It Was Crushed by Xbox Series X in 'Devil May Cry?'

Xbox's Series X won because of its consistency, particularly on the 4K video resolution or 3840x2160p delivery. The users of Microsoft's new console can enjoy a 60Hz resolution option with a locked 4K video resolution at 60fps which is more preferable than PS5's automatic toggling of options.

According to Extreme Tech, the PlayStation 5 locks itself at the 120Hz output resolution while playing the game. The higher refresh rate would then be forced by the PS5 to lower down from 2160p to 1440p or 1080p which is only a High-Definition resolution to compensate for its systems, despite the TV's 4K capability.

PS5 would have an advantage if Sony updated the console's software to switch between 60Hz and 120Hz any time, giving Xbox Series X a run for its money.
