After its release in the market, iPhone 12 Pro has been criticized for its upgrades, especially its camera features. Apple Insider reported that iPhone 12 Pro is just the fourth-best smartphone in the world as of today. It beats out iPhone 11 Pro Max as it scores 128 points in DXOMark's testing system.

DXOMark is a camera grading platform that conducts tests of the different camera platforms to catalog the world's best camera.

The iPhone 12 Pro garnered an overall score of 128 points, from 135 points in photo tests and 112 in the video, placing it as the fourth in their smartphone camera rankings.

iPhone 12 Pro had an advantage performing well in most conditions, but DXOMark noted issues with clipping in shadows and highlights. The iPhone tends to underexpose the closer view to spare the background in open-air shots, which leads to shadow clipping in subjects. DXOMark added that constrained dynamic extends in low light circumstances, highlighting clipping and loss of detail.

iPhone 12 Pro cameras do well with photo output color and are generally accurate. However, the testers note that a blue or green cast over the image may be caused by the light from the open background in some outdoor situations.

Auto-focus

In all lighting conditions, the iPhone is reliably able to recognize the subject and focus indeed in troublesome circumstances. Compared to other models, the iPhone reliably focused around 400ms vs. the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G at 800ms, and the Huawei P40 Pro hitting a extend between 900ms and 1,400ms.

The testing covers the iPhone camera's less favorable qualities like destitute noise reduction in a few scenes and slight artifacts in completely different situations. DXOMark notes that the 2X telephoto lens isn't sufficient compared to what other smartphones offer, but precision and speed make up for that difference.

The video score appears that the iPhone camera performs well in all lighting conditions, and the HDR video recording makes a difference. The video comes out color precise with natural skin tones and conventional noise levels.

Video Stability

Testers are also pleased that the 4k video of the iPhone 12 Pro shows good details, especially the video stabilization that keeps things smooth and steady while shooting video bare-handedly, as reported by 9to5mac. They say that it shoots like you have a tripod installed even when you are still standing while recording.

The scoring system in the performance test

DXOMark engineers capture and evaluate over 3000 images and more than 2.5 hours of video in a controlled laboratory environment, natural indoor and outdoor scenarios, using default camera settings to analyze and score the smartphones.
