The United Kingdom is now having a second thought if it'll receive Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine after two NHS staff, who received the new medicine, suffered from allergic and anaphylactic reactions. The health care workers are now recovering from the negative effects following the first day of the mass vaccination project.
"As is common with new vaccines the MHRA [Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency] have advised on a precautionary basis that people with a significant history of allergic reactions do not receive this vaccination," said Stephen Powis, the national medical director for the national health service in England, via Business Insider.
The MHRA also said that the warning includes those who have reactions to food, vaccines, and other medicines. According to The Daily Mail UK's latest report, The NHS announced on Dec. 8 that it plans to vaccine the entire population of the United Kingdom.
NHS will roll out Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine
The National Health Service said it'll roll out the vaccine at 50 hospital sites to the vulnerable people, over-80s, as well as the frontline care home and hospital staff who are at risk.
As of the moment, thousands of patients are suggesting that the anti-vaxxers or vaccine skeptics people should have the COVID-19 vaccine jab for the good of the country. Medical experts and health bosses are also preparing for a delivery of more than a million doses of the Pfizer vaccine next week.
Seventy U.K. hospitals already received the national vaccination drive, and most of the people who received the vaccine are over-80s.
Two allergic reactions already occured
MHRA's chief executive Dr. June Raine said that the Pfizer vaccine already showed two negative reactions on Dec. 8. Raine added that she shared the two case reports of allergic reactions with the committees.
The chief executive explained that they already made careful plans when monitoring the side effects of vaccinations. She also said that they'll provide any updates they receive, which will be immediately advised to the patients.
Right now, MHRA is strongly urging the people who have a history of a significant allergic reaction not to take Pfizer as of the moment. These also include those individuals who were advised to carry any adrenaline autoinjector and those who have a previous history of an anaphylactoid reaction.
