The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new guidance to help minimize the COVID-19 vaccine's side effects on those people who will take it and have allergies.
The new guidelines were issued after the agency found out that some people experienced anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction after they took the COVID-19 vaccine jab.
According to Independent UK's latest report, the new recommendations state that those who are suffering from severe allergic reactions should not take the second jab.
CDC said that you are considered having a severe allergic reaction if you need to be treated with EpiPen or epinephrine. If you are also advised to go to the hospital, that means you are experiencing anaphylaxis.
CDC's new recommendations
Yahoo Finance stated that the new guidance suggests that you should avoid the vaccine formula containing the ingredient you are allergic with. This means that you really need to check the vaccine's description before setting an appointment to get a jab.
CDC stated that if the participants have severe allergic reaction histories to certain vaccines, they should consult their doctors first before taking the COVID-19 medicine shot.
On the other hand, those who are allergic to latex, pets, food, or environmental conditions, including the people with allergies to oral medication could get the coronavirus vaccine.
US FDA is now investigating five allergic reactions
Aside from the CDC, the United States Food and Drug Administration is also investigating and observing five allergic reactions experienced by the first people who took BioNTech SE and Pfizer Inc's COVID-19 vaccine this week.
On Friday, Dec. 18, FDA the Moderna Inc coronavirus vaccine should not be administered to those who have a known history of a severe allergic reaction, although the medicine already received emergency use authorization.
