Instagram has so far been a mobile-based application since its start and introduction in 2010 and has stayed on the platform eleven years later, until today, but some people prefer web browsing over smartphones. Facebook has migrated some of the social media's Settings on the web browser only and has enabled the photo-sharing platform to be used via desktop browsers.

Most social media platforms started via the internet and PC desktop or laptop browsers, which need the traditional Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Safari to launch the experience. These social media include Yahoo Messenger, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.

However, some social media started as smartphone applications that mainly focused on the mobile platform with Instagram, Snapchat, Vine, and the like. Having said this, there were no options before that makes it available for public use via the desktop web browser, but with Facebook's acquisition of Instagram last 2014, it has been made possible as various Settings were also moved via web browser only (ex. Deactivating IG Account).

Instagram Stories via Web Browser: New and Improved

LONDON, ENGLAND - AUGUST 03: The Instagram logo is displayed within the opened app on an iPhone on August 3, 2016 in London, England.

Now, reports are saying that Instagram is improving its web browser experience, particularly for looking at Instagram Stories which is a mobile feature that was also added to the desktop browser function. However, this feature can only let users watch Instagram Stories on the desktop, without the option of uploading or capturing via the computer.

Before this rework, Instagram Stories feels suffocating as it takes over the entire webpage and blocks everything else when viewing, as it aims to resemble the mobile application feels in the browser. However, unlike the smooth smartphone motion and smaller screen that is understandable as it takes over the display, PCs version does the same, making it a sore to the eye.

The good news is that users no longer need to experience that headache and suffer from the awkward IG story display on PC desktops or laptops as an update is in the works to replace that function. Moreover, it would resemble more of a card game that shows the "story cards" that users have passed or are coming up in the queue.

The display would no longer show the posts and homepage of Instagram while browsing the stories on its tabs. Moreover, it would be easier for the upcoming stories as the new and improved display would show the previous two and the next two that users would open.

This feature would enable users to see the upcoming and decide to exit the Stories pane when someone they avoid or ignore gets in the queue to view the story. However, Instagram is only testing this to a small group of users first, resembling a beta feature, and would soon come for the entire platform.

Instagram has not yet revealed whether when this would be widely available for everyone to experience or become permanent for all Instagram desktop users to use. Instagram Stories have improved through the years as the company was still figuring out how to optimize it for large screens.
