BERLIN, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 21: A young man holding a smartphone casts a shadow as he walks past an advertisement for social media company TikTok on September 21, 2020 in Berlin, Germany. U.S. President Donald Trump has given preliminary approval for Oracle, Walmart and other investors to take over TikTok and create a new U.S.-based company called TikTok Global.

However, rumors claim that the new trend is dangerous since there are some users that could save the contents, remove the red filter, and post them on other social media sites. This is alarming since Pop Inquirer reported that thousands of people have taken part in the latest challenge, making it the most viral trends on the Chinese app.

Many people posted that users should not be doing the new challenge since there are some men that are editing the red filter to reveal the original video or image underneath the red lighting.

Why TikTok's new viral challenge is dangerous

According to Pop Buzz's latest report, although there's no way that people can remove the red filter once it is applied, there are some methods that some individuals are using to edit the viral contents.

On Thursday evening, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that bans any transactions between the parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, and U.S. citizens due to national security reasons. The president signed a separate executive order banning transactions with China-based tech company Tencent, which owns the app WeChat. Both orders are set to take effect in 45 days.

Most of the targeted creators are women. If you will search the challenge on Google, one of the most popular searchers is "How to remove the red filter." This just shows that there are lots of users trying to take advantage of the women content creators.

Some users are even posting the method on how to remove the red filter that hides the original image or video of the content creators. These include the Twitter account @redlightremover and another Reddit user. Reports confirmed that the posts were already deleted.

Here are some of the Twitter posts confirming what other malicious users are doing with the new TikTok craze.

How to report a Twitter post

If you want to help and stop the current issue with the new TikTok challenge, you can report any post that is sharing how to remove the filter. It may be a small act, but if many users do this, those posts will be immediately deleted. You can also report the accounts doing it.

If you see it on Twitter, all you need to do is take the three horizontal dots and then click report. Select the options harmful or abusive. After that, you can also send an actual statement why you find it harmful or offensive.
