Despite the rumors that came some time earlier regarding Huawei's possible spinoff at its consumer business, the company is reportedly still pushing on ahead with a brand new flagship phone. The new phone, a foldable one, is expected to arrive later this month.

Huawei Mate X2 release date

According to the official Huawei Weibo account, it was said that the Chinese brand's upcoming next foldable phone will simply be called the Huawei Mate X2. The official unveiling will be on February 22 and an article by Engadget is titled that the phone will launch on February 22.

Interestingly, the phone's teaser image is suggesting that the upcoming flexible display will be foldable inward this time. This is opposed to the previous Mate X and the Mate Xs which had out-ward facing foldable screens. Considering that Huawei had previously shut down certain prototype designs that were similar to their competitor Samsung's very own Galaxy Fold as well as its successor, it is now interesting to see Huawei doing a literal 180 for its expected upcoming foldable phones.

As the official info now goes, that's all the information present as of the moment. The CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, also added on the Weibo announcement that he has already been using the new Huawei Mate X2 for about some time now. He also noted that the phone contains a lot of surprises.

The man definitely likes to tease, however, potential buyers still do wonder just how many units will the team be capable of shipping (not that the company has previously shared any of those figures for its other foldable phones) given the previous severe shortage of Huawei's very own flagship mobile processors. Another concern would be whether or not Huawei will be able to have enough units for the company to sell outside of China with this particular gadget. The specs were noted on specifications-pro.
