Tesla Model Y timeline in Europe

With Model Y timeline, Tesla has revealed that they have taken a completely different approach to rolling out the vehicle in a new and larger market.

In the past, Tesla would start its production of a new vehicle at the Fremont factory, and they start deliveries in North America and then expand to the other markets as soon as production had increased at the factory.

However, for Model Y, Tesla then plans to just launch the electric SUV in Europe and Asia when it gets local production. Tesla already started Model Y production at Gigafactory Shanghai, and now the electric SUV is being delivered in China.

Now that Tesla bagged the China market, the company is targeting Europe next. In order for Model Y to be delivered on the previous continent, Tesla needs to reach production at the new Gigafactory Berlin.

Tesla has now updated its Model Y online configurator in Europe in order to show a more precise delivery timeline of mid-2021. In just a few months, the production at Gigafactory Berlin will begin, according to Electrek.Co.

Gigafactory Berlin in mid-2021

This is great news for Model Y reservation holders in Europe who have been waiting for years to get a Tesla in the continent. What is also exciting is that the Model Y showed that Gigafactory Berlin will feature several new technologies.

The Tesla vehicles will be equipped with the new 4680 battery cell, which features a tabless design enabling a massive form-factor among other vehicle improvements.

These new improvements will have new cells and they are going to be used in a new structural battery pack design when the pack is then used as a structural part of the car's chassis. The new Model Y that is produced at Gigafactory Berlin is going to be built with fewer parts than the US-made version due to more giga-casting.

The front and the back underbody of the vehicle are going to be made of a single part that is made in a Giga Press and connected together by the structural battery pack.

These specific changes are expected to simplify the production of the electric vehicle, to reduce the production cost and to create a more efficient vehicle.

What is Model Y?

Tesla Model Y is the company's vehicle for 2021 that adds additional cargo space. It has an optional third row of seats and the vehicle styling to the more affordable end of Tesla's offerings, according to Autocar.Co.UK.

Powered by dual on-board electric motors is a lot, the base Standard Range model comes with rear-wheel drive but the Long Range and Performance models get all-wheel drive as a standard. The driving range is amazing with a maximum range of up to 326 miles per charge.

Tesla is known to make numerous running changes throughout the year rather than group things into a massive batch when flipping the switch from one model year to another.
