CES, the world's largest annual consumer technology trade show, runs through January 10 and features about 4,500 exhibitors showing off their latest products and services to more than 170,000 attendees.

The company said that this new camera sensor is capable of generating around 17.84 million pixels resolution and a square shape around 1-inch diagonally. New Atlas reported that its high-speed readout allows you to shoot 4K video at up to 1,000 FPS.

Because of its advanced capabilities, it is considered on par with the latest Phantom Flex 4K. Ametek's official website stated that this camera can also shoot 4K videos but only produces 983 frames per second, lower than Nikon's new sensor. To give you more idea, here are its other specs you should know.

Nikon explained that even at 1,000 frames per second, the new sensor can still offer a wide dynamic range of 110 dB. However, if the user slows down the settings to 60 FPS, the 100 dB will increase to 134 dB. Aside from this, Nikon's new sensor also offers a neat process for dealing with underexposed and overexposed areas in the image.

This innovation can achieve this since it runs two image sensors on top of another. On the other hand, the top sensor's pixels are compiled into blocks of 16x16, effectively making it a 256 x 256 superpixel array.

Each superpixel on the top layer takes its own exposure measurement when the light passes through it on the way to the bottom sensor. Nikon's new technology will also use the pixel to control the exposure time for the group of 256 smaller pixels below it.

Will it lead to an advanced Nikon camera?

If Nikon's new sensor is integrated into an upcoming DLSR, the company could release an advanced camera that can compete with the big manufacturers such as Canon and more. With the high-end features, Nikon's innovation could generate HD photographs and videos that can easily be edited by different software. However, the tech giant company hasn't released any info yet if it will be used in a new camera or DLSR.
