Fitbit, the famous health wearable gadget, has solid hardware and sophisticated software. This is the reason why its trackers and smartwatches are considered one of the best in the market.
Now that Google has acquired the rights to Fitbit, people are now anticipating what is in store for them. A recent survey from Fitbit revealed that the users were asked to review a potential new service offering.
Fitbit new subscription
According to Android Central, the survey outlines the current free Fitbit service, which gives essential statuses like workout-tracking, step counts, health metrics, and sleep score. The Fitbit premium, which currently costs $9.99 a month, offers more data and options for users to manage their health.
Apparently, the reason for the survey is because the company is preparing a new and cheaper subscription. The third subscription tier is said to cost only $2.99 a month.
That cost is a fraction of the Premium plan's total, and because of this, the plan does not add a lot of additional data. It offers the users more historical data of the information they can see on their free plan.
Fitbit describes the new subscription plan as letting the users see their sleep, activity, stress, and health metrics for the previous month, previous year, and even forever with unlimited historical data, according to Slash Gear.
The free Fitbit plan will only allow users to see the past 30 days or as little as seven days for some of the health metrics and fitness data. This plan would allow the users who only need this information to review it in an affordable way.
Under the new terms after Google acquired the rights to Fitbit, Google is not allowed to use the data of Fitbit users and sell them to third-party companies in order to sell them ads or show target ads. It is possible that Google is using subscriptions like these to increase revenue.
Fitbit's new features
In early 2020, when Google acquired the rights to Fitbit, new features were added to the software. Google rolled out blood glucose tracking to its iOS app and Android app, according to 9to5Google.
The Fitbit Sense's ECG feature is also set to be launched to more places while there are a couple of in-app and hardware changes. Managing blood glucose can be stressful, but Fitbit's Blood Glucose Tracking feature can help users make it easier by blending it into a cohesive experience with their other health behaviors.
In early February, the Fitbit app will let the US users log or automatically import blood glucose readings to let users with diabetes track their key health information all in one place.
Users can connect the OneTouch Reveal app from LifeScan to support other meters and apps released in the future. This information can get visualized, and it is also shown together with the other metrics such as food, sleep, and physical activity.
The Fitbit Sense's ECG feature is set to be launched in New Zealand, Canada, and the United States territories. This capability allows the users to analyze heart rhythms for AFib or atrial fibrillation. It was first launched in the United States and some parts of Europe in 2020.
