Wix is one of the largest and most well-known web development platforms on the internet today. You may have even seen commercials for the brand on television, or while browsing through YouTube. If you have seen their videos, you will likely also remember them using a celebrity as their case study.

The reason for this is that the  Wix eCommerce Site Builder has made it so extremely intuitive for anyone to create an ecommerce site, that they want to get the word out as quickly and effectively as possible. By using a celebrity (who would likely have no tech or design skills), they are showing how quick and simple it is to create a site in just a few moments' time.

Sticking with this concept, we wanted to break down a simple 7-step process why Wix might be your best option if you are looking to start a new site or online ecommerce site.

Let's get started.

Log in to your account or sign up.

First thing's first, you will need to create an account on Wix and then log into your account. If you aren't sure if you want to use Wix yet, no problem, you can sign up for a free account and then upgrade when you are ready.

Right after you create an account on Wix, you are going to see a few optional questions that you can answer, which will help you create the best site for your needs.

Based on how you answer these initial questions, Wix will point you in the right direction, while also giving you the best options available.

For this tutorial, we chose starting a new online site for selling physical products.

Choose from 500+ professional online store templates.

Now that you've answered the quiz survey questions on the site, it's time to get started with the actual site creation process.

The first thing to do, is to select a great looking template for your site. And fortunately, Wix offers more than 500 different designs to choose from -- all with no additional coding or design skills required.

To find the best theme for your needs, all you need to do is select any of the categories listed in the template store, and then browse through whichever you like best.

There is also an option to go with a Blank Template, so you can create your store design from scratch.

Customize your online store's design.

Selecting a theme for your site is easy enough, but with millions of users already on Wix, it likely means a lot of the sites are using the templates right out of the box. To make your site stand out from the crowd, it's important to play around with your site design colors, styles, content and more.

Again, the common theme here with Wix is that they make it extremely intuitive for anyone to create a site or online store of their own.

After selecting a template that you like, you can click on the "Edit" button. This will bring up the Wix site editor, which is all WYSIWYG, and a nice drag and drop solution that's extremely fast and easy to learn.

Through the use of the Wix App Market, there are plenty of other integrations and features that can improve your site usage and visitor experience.

 Add products to your store.

With your site template and customization now in place, it's time to start adding some new products to your site.

Again, through the use of the same drag and drop site editor, we can start adding products to our site.

You can click on the "ADD" or "+" button on the left side menu, and then hover over to "Store" in the next menu tab. From here you can start exploring the many different product listing options available, such as adding individual product listings, widgets, shopping carts, add to cart buttons and more.

Connect a payment provider and set up shipping.

It's one thing to create a nice looking site for your online store, and it's another to actually be able to take and process orders from your customers. In order to set this up, you will need to connect with a reliable payment provider, and also set up your product shipping and tracking services.

When it comes time to set up your payment processing, you will need to have a premium account with Wix. After this is done, you can select any of the payment options available -- which include Wix Payments, Square, Paypal, 2Checkout and many more.

If you are already in the process of creating your store and are ready to add payment processing, simply follow the steps below.

●     Go to Accept Payments on your site's dashboard.

●     Select the payment methods you want to use, or click See More Payment Options.

●     Click Complete Setup / Connect for each payment method required and follow the steps provided.

Choose a custom domain.

The last step in the process is to choose a domain name for your site. This is the web address that people will type in to get to your site.

When trying to come up with an original domain name for your site, try to pick one that allows you to stand out from the crowd, is easy to spell and remember, uses target keywords and is something that you want to represent your brand for the long run.

Free plans will have a domain associated with Wix, and if you register your own domain and go with a premium plan, then you can set up a real domain for your site -- this is the recommended solution, as it's much more professional.

Another benefit to upgrading to their yearly payment plans is that users will receive a 1 year free domain name voucher.

Publish your eCommerce website and start selling.

With all of these simple little tweaks, decisions and methods now in place, the only thing left for you to do is to publish your site and put it out there for the rest of the world to see. This can be done by clicking on the "Publish" button from within your site editor.

While your site will now be live with it's own Wix ecommerce store and a domain name of it's own, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.

With more than a billion active websites, blogs and ecommerce sites online, that is a lot of competition to stand up against. This means you will need to put in a lot of time and effort with your content creation and marketing efforts.

The good news is, your site is now up and ready for new customers to come pouring in!

Wix Makes eCommerce Simple

In summary, if you've always wanted to start an online website or store of your own, the first step in the process is getting live with a site of your own. Having just walked through this process, you should now have a much better idea on how it's all possible.

Another quick tip is that Wix also offers other features, tutorials and blog posts on how to further grow your new site in a wide range of directions.

If you'd like to learn more about how to promote your site in the search results, through SEO and content creation, or even building out your own mailing list, be sure to check out what the Wix blog has to offer.
