The card game "Magic: The Gathering" announced that it will expand its multi-dimensional universe as it includes the works of Games Workshop and J.R.R Tolkien.

Magic: The Gathering universe

Hasbro announced this week that these settings come a part of the card game's "Universes Beyond," the game's universe expansion that features the new set of cards based on pop culture favorites featured in movies, TV shows, and video games.

Wizards of the Coast had already revealed that this would include fan-favorite "Dungeons & Dragons," and now "The Lord of the Rings" and "Warhammer 40K" cards will also be included, according to Polygon.

While the new card set has only been properly announced for the card game's physical edition, fans are still expecting to see the new card set show up in "Magic: The Gathering Arena," according to PC Gamer.

Two sets for starters

Hasbro, the video gaming company that has owned Wizards of the Coast since 1999, had tried for the longest time to have access to the properties of the Middle-Earth universe created by J.R.R Tolkien, which includes both "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Hobbit."

Meanwhile, "Warhammer 40K" is a tabletop game with miniatures that has been in effect since September 1987. Although it is not precisely clear whether fans will see the characters from "Magic: The Gathering" appear in "Warhammer 40K," it is possible that fans will see "Warhammer 40K" characters appear in "Magic: The Gathering" cards.

The release dates for these crossovers have not been revealed yet, but Hasbro will let the fans know as soon as the first two sets are set to be launched. Hasbro stated that "Magic" crossover products will take the popular brands and bring them into the play system of "Magic" for exciting new collectible and social play opportunities.

Avoiding ARC

In 1998, Wizards of the Coast launched a card game named C-23. The game was also known as Jim Lee's C-23, which is a great comic book series. The game C-23 was meant to be a part of a card game system named ARC system, according to Newsbreak.

The ARC system was a multi-universe card game system in which the Deckmaster system would set the game for cross-play among the properties, much like MTG. The ARC system also had "Hercules" and "Xena" sets, also from Wizards of the Coast in which all sets were released in 1998.

The whole concept was great, and the game was popular at the time, but the ARC system never created anything else beyond these three sets. Wizards of the Coast had left the system and the sets after the release of "Hercules," released in July 1998.

What is Magic: The Gathering?

"Magic: The Gathering" is a digital collectible card game that was created and developed by Richard Garfield. It was released in 1993 by Wizards of Coast, now known as Hasbro. It was the first-ever trading card game and had 35 million players and more than 20 billion cards from 2008 to 2016.

The player takes a Planeswalker role who casts spells using artifacts, battles with other players, and summoning the creatures on individual cards drawn from separate decks.
