NVIDIA's gaming service GeForce Now announced that there are some changes when it comes to subscription plans.

Starting Thursday, Mar. 18, paid memberships will now cost $10 a month or $100 a year. They are now called "Priority" memberships.

NVIDIA GeForce Now subscription increase

If you are an existing "Founders" member, you can keep the same price as long as you remain as a subscriber.

If you stop your subscription, you won't be able to pay $5 a month anymore, and you will need to follow the new price range, according to VentureBeat.

In 2020, when NVIDIA introduced the paid plans for GeForce Now, NVIDIA was transparent with its user base.

People could pay $5 a month to access the "Founders" edition, but the company had hinted that they would increase the subscription at some point. And that is what is happening as the subscription fee is now double the amount.

What is GeForce Now?

GeForce Now lets you start a game on a gaming PC in a data center near you. You then get a video stream on your computer, mobile phone, TV, or tablet of the game running in a data center.

GeForce Now uses a web app on iOS and iPadOS and is available on a limited number of Android TV devices. When you press a button on your controller, the action is then relayed to the server so you can interact with the game.

All of this happens in milliseconds, making it one of the smoothest cloud gaming experiences available right now.

Unlike Amazon Luna and Google Stadia, NVIDIA is not starting its game store. GeForce Now users launch games that they already have. The platform supports Epic Games, Steam, GOG.com, and Ubisoft.

Game publishers have to opt into GeForce Now, which means that users can't launch all of their games that they own in their Steam library. Currently, GeForce Now supports around 800 games that users can find on the NVIDIA page.

According to CNET, you can play for free if you want to try GeForce Now as NVIDIA offers a free membership trial. However, you need to wait in a queue until a free server is available, and it can take five to 15 minutes.

After that, users are limited to one-hour sessions. When you have played for an hour, you are kicked out of the server. You can still restart the same game, but you will have to go through the queue again.

If you decided to pay for the subscription, the games start instantly, and you can play up to six hours at a time. Also, you can start the game instantly after your six-hour limit is up. Paid members can also get RTX-enabled graphics.

NVIDIA stated that it had already attracted almost 10 million users for its cloud gaming service. It is not clear how many of them are paying for a subscription now.

In 2020, NVIDIA doubled the number of data centers. There are now more than 20 data centers operated by NVIDIA or local partners.

The company also plans to expand existing data centers and add new ones in Montreal, Phoenix, and Australia.
