Elon Musk tweeted on Thursday, Apr. 1, that he will take Dogecoin once SpaceX lands in the Moon. But, is he really planning to do is or is it just his April Fool's entry?

"SpaceX is going to put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon," said SpaceX's CEO via his official Twitter account.

His latest tweet was able to generate more than 9,800 retweets, 2,000 quote tweets, and 71,000 likes.

As of the moment, Elon Musk hasn't confirmed if his tweet is real or if it is just a joke.

Why Elon Musk loves Dogecoin

Dogecoin was launched way back in 2013. It became popular because of the funny Doge meme. Aside from this, Elon Musk also promoted this cryptocurrency, which added to its value today.

The popular tech CEO previously revealed the reason why he loves Dogecoin. On Feb. 24, he tweeted that he is into Dogecoin because of his love for dogs and memes.

On the other hand, he also called Dogecoin "people's crypto." Because of Elon Musk's promotion, the crypto currency's assets increased more than 25% previously in February.

And now, Dogecoin's current value increased by more than 13%, which was confirmed by The Wall Street Journal's reporter Caitlin Ostroff.

"Cryptocurrency Dogecoin, which was created as a bitcoin parody, shot up 13% after Tesla boss Elon Musk tweeted that his company, SpaceX, is "going to put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon," she tweeted.

When will SpaceX land on the moon? 

CNET previously reported that Elon Musk's SpaceX could reach the moon and return to Earth by 2023. The private space agency's upcoming lunar space exploration is called the DearMoon, which is expected to take a group of eight people to the moon using SpaceX's Starship aircraft. 

This space project was previously announced by Elon Musk and its partner Yusaku Maezawa, a Japanese millionaire, way back in 2018. They said that they plan to invite artists and other popular individuals from across the globe to experience the moon mission.  

"I began to think that maybe every single person who is doing something creative could be called an artist," said Maezawa.
