Project Solar Shatters Price Barrier to Help Homes Go Green

Solar has exploded in popularity over the last 10 years with a massive 4300% growth in the number of homes with solar. This growth has been driven by the fact solar saves money. According to the Lazard Levelized Cost of Energy Analysis, solar has dipped below wind as the lowest cost energy generation solution, even cheaper than coal and nuclear. The markup utility companies charge is often 3-6x the cost to generate the electricity, so if you can generate your own solar, massive savings can be achieved.

Project Solar is a new brand providing a more efficient, and therefor massively reduced cost, solar solution for homes in the United States. By taking all aspects of sales online, cutting out the door-knocking solar consultant that often makes $10,000-$15,000 per sale, Project Solar is passing savings onto the customer, reducing their cost to half the national average.

Project Solar has automated the process through software by utilizing satellite and LIDAR technology in combination with photos provided by the homeowner. The company can then have remote engineers provide the structural and electrical calculations to get permits for a safe, efficient solar solution.

The online-based company is tracking to be at 1,000 installs a month by the end of their first year, accounting for an estimated 3% of all solar installs in the United States. The reason for the brand's popularity is its reasonable and affordable prices compared to its competitors. Project Solar is transparent in pricing, without the typical rate manipulation based on the region's utility cost.

According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory 2020 Quarterly Report, solar industry average rates are $3.95/watt for under 10 kW and $3.50/watt for 10-100kW, whereas Project Solar prices are substantially lower at an average of $2.00/watt with installation ($1.50 after federal incentives) and even lower for their do-it-yourself option.

The co-founder of Project Solar, Trevor Hiltbrand, explained "the amount you pay for solar should be based on the cost of materials, not the cost of energy your utility company charges." He's referring to the fact that companies that operate in multiple jurisdictions will maximize their price as high as they can justify in relation to the energy cost in the area. For example, California has notoriously high electricity rates at about 18¢/kWh vs Utah where the average is 11¢. Predatory companies will charge more for the same system because they can, not because they need to. The material cost in each state is the same. This is why California has been the hottest solar market for the last 10 years, because that's where the profit is... and to be fair, California has great sun.

The reality is, solar, when priced fairly, is a win-win for almost any market. In Idaho for example, with decent snowfall, the total production over 25 years divided by the cost of a solar system averages 4.2¢ per kWh. If your utility company charges 11¢, you are saving nearly 7¢ a kWh. If the average home uses 1000 kWh a month, that equates to $68/month in savings or $20,400 saved over 25 years (which is the equipment warranty length for Project Solar equipment).

Most Project Solar customers pay off their system within 4-6 years.

These savings estimates don't even take into consideration the historical utility rate increase of 2% per year.

Hiltbrand emphasized, "Solar is not just for climate warriors and environmental activists. It's for anyone that is financially prudent and enjoys paying less for the energy they consume."

Project Solar not only provides solutions at the lowest and most transparent price, but also uses the best quality components so people get value from their solar systems for years to come. The company uses highly rated and efficient black on black panels paired with Enphase® microinverters, the highest rated type and brand for DC to AC inverting. Furthermore, all equipment provided comes with a 25-year warranty.
