Blizzard has announced the start date of the technical alpha of "Diablo II: Resurrected" on PC, which will run all weekend long starting at Apr. 9.

"Diablo II: Resurrected" was announced at BlizzCon 2021 after months of rumors, leaks, and fan speculation regarding an ambitious remaster of the 2000 game that defined the hack-and-slash RPG.

'Diablo II: Resurrected' technical alpha

"Diablo II: Resurrected" combines "Diablo II" with its "Lord of Destruction" expansion into one package. The video game has fully remastered visuals, but it runs over the original video game, which means that it is possible to switch to the old visuals at any time.

The video game is coming to PC and consoles in 2021, and even the idea of multi-platform crossplay being added after the launch was floated by Blizzard, according to Collider.

However, it seems crossplay won't be available to "Diablo II: Resurrected," but it will have cross-progression at launch.

The user interface has also be redesigned, and the game will have numerous quality of life improvements, including an expanded stash.

"Diablo II: Resurrected" still does not have a release date, but players can sign up for a technical alpha for the PC version, according to Screen Rant.

Blizzard has announced that the first technical alpha for the PC version of "Diablo II: Resurrected" will start on Apr.9 and will conclude on Apr. 12.

This is for single-player content only, with a multiplayer alpha planned for a later date. A limited number of players will be chosen for the technical alpha, and they will be contacted by email in the run-up to the event, with further information on how interested players can participate.

The technical alpha will give game players access to the first two "Acts of Diablo II: Resurrected." This means that story progression will conclude with the battle against Duriel in Tal Rasha's Chamber.

Game players will have access to three classes: Barbarian, Amazon and Sorceress. The technical alpha will not have a level cap, so players will be free to gain as much experience as possible and unleash as many high-level abilities as they can get over the game's play period.

"Diablo II: Resurrected" is one of this year's most highly-anticipated games, especially among the older PC gaming crowd, who remember the far-off days of playing with friends across dial-up connections.

A lot has changed since the release of "Diablo II," including the franchise "Diablo III" which is still going strong, and "Diablo IV" is set to be launched in the near future, according to Polygon.

There are a lot of fans who have waited a long time for the remaster of "Diablo II," and the upcoming alpha will give several game players the chance to see if the video game still has the same elements that it had years before.

"Diablo II: Resurrected" is set to be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S this year.

What is 'Diablo II' about?

"Diablo II's" storyline progresses through four different chapters, also known as Acts. Each act follows a predetermined path, but the wilderness areas and dungeons between key cities are randomly generated.

The player progresses through the story by completing a series of quests within each Act, while there are also optional side dungeons for extra experience and for extra monsters. The environments for "Diablo II" are much more varied than that of "Diablo I."
