Google will remove the Play Movies and TV application from Smart TVs it runs its service to, with the likes of Samsung, LG, Roku, and Vizio, as it prioritizes the use of the new app called "YouTube TV." This move sounds familiar because of the switch from Play Music to YouTube Music that has occurred last August 2020, expanding the streaming platform's services.
Most of Google's "Play" platform is bidding farewell, and the next to strike out is the Play Movies and TV app which has been a video-on-demand platform that allows users to watch and save films after buying them. Before streaming apps like Netflix or Disney+'s widespread use worldwide, apps like Play Movies and TV app by Google have dominated the online streaming world.
The feature is similar to pay-per-view and on-demand video that is offered by local cable providers with their deals and films which requires users to either purchase it over the phone or via the website. The switch is now prioritizing Google's move to the new method of media sharing and that is via a monthly streaming service subscription.

Google Play Movies, TV App to Shut Down
According to 9 to 5 Google's report, Smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Vizio, and those with Roku's device or software installed on it would soon remove Google Play Movies and TV application from its platform. This move was orchestrated by Google, and it is a planned move from a video-on-demand (VOD) platform to a streaming service.
The Play Movies and TV app are one of the remaining online services which offer a VOD and pay-per-view (PPV) that is widely accessible to users, most available and installed among smart TVs and devices. What the application offers is its availability to stream recently available films on cinema, right at the comforts of one's home, which users can choose from.
Unlike streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and more, users have a choice in what to pay for and have it within their possession without paying for an entire service.
YouTube TV, What Is It?
YouTube TV is a media streaming service from Google, following the transition of YouTube from an online, user-generated media, to a platform that offers a subscription with films and television series available. YouTube TV resembles that of Hulu, which offers a live television streaming on its platform, alongside the various films and series available on the service.
The new YouTube platform from Google is following the footsteps of YouTube Premium and YouTube Music to become Google's subscription streaming platform that would follow monthly and yearly fees for its availability.
Is It Worth It?
YouTube TV is another addition to the subscription service platform which has been widely available even before COVID-19, which has risen in popularity because of the pandemic as an alternative source for entertainment. The application has been around for some time now, but it has not yet received its break as the competition remains tough in the VOD and PPV online streaming platforms.
