COVID-19 vaccine eligibility for 16 year-olds is reportedly given for Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms to campaign about, as directed by the White House and President Joe Biden. This comes after the recent statistics that were released by the country's health agencies regarding the majority of 18 y.o. and above having received their shots.

STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT - MARCH 14: Nurse manager Lucy Golding draws up doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine before health workers administered the shots to immigrants and undocumented residents ages 55 and over on March 14, 2021 in Stamford, Connecticut. The non-profit Building One Community organized the event to administer the first dose of the Moderna vaccine to more than 350 people from the immigrant community. The vaccines were supplied by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and injected by Community Health Center workers. Initially, COVID-19 vaccine doses have been intended for 18 years old and above only, which was the age determined to be eligible to receive the immunization shots from companies that have offered theirs. Emergency Use Authorized doses like Pfizer and BioNTech, and Moderna, which are both mRNA-based is what would most likely be released for the public.

Johnson and Johnson's vaccine, along with fellow adenovirus-based shots, AstraZeneca remains in the dark, especially as the FDA has halted the administration of the former due to alarming side effects of blood clots. The effectiveness ratings have recently reached more than 90 percent, which is a massive one that ensures safety from getting infected or transmitting the virus.

COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility with Facebook and Twitter

As reported by Axios last Sunday, Facebook and Twitter were the two chosen social media platforms by the Biden administration to send push notifications about new vaccine eligibility to receive shots. The campaign that was supposed to happen by May 1 was moved to April 19, especially as most 18 y.o. and above have been registered to having received the vaccines already.

The move to targetting a younger age of eligibility is to move the country to have more of its residents vaccinated and create a net of safety against the virus that has plagued the country for more than a year now. This campaign is to effectively end the pandemic and hopefully resume most of the industries hindered by it, including the educational system.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also released its statistics, saying that more than 50.4 percent of Americans aged 18 years old and above have received at least one dose. The data has shown that 32.5 percent of these are fully vaccinated, which is 25.4 percent of the country's total population.

Social Media Toolkit for Facebook and Twitter

Being the two largest social media platforms in the country and the world, the COVID-19 vaccine eligibility campaign was passed on to Facebook and Twitter, which would send out push notifications to its users. It is known that users in the platform are at least 12 years old, as allowed by the company to create an account.

The social media toolkit in the "We Can Do This" campaign by the government has released what the campaign would ensue, once it appears on user's devices in the form of notifications. Information dissemination would empower the knowledge over eligibility on the country's vaccination, especially as it targets ages of minorities.
